Bare metal seats on the deck of the ferry
So cold in morning, getting warm after noon
I head across to a place that I long for
A day’s journey, beginning soon
We shift our feet as the metal gate screeches
And walk aboard, one by one
Churning engines fill the hull beneath us
With a deep low rumble, a constant hum
(A-hum) Ferry me (Oh, oh) Ferry me
(Oh) Got my ticket in my hand (Oh, oh) I’m ready to ride
(A-hum) Ferry me (Oh, oh) Ferry me
(Oh) Take me to the (Oh, oh) Sunny side
The portside dips, the starboard rises
Do I sway side to side, from day to day?
Clouds they clear as the boat moves onward
Am I sometimes blue, and sometimes gray?
Pelicans glide in tight formation
While seagulls laugh and hover above
My chest of hopes drawing forward
My whole body leaning for love
(A-hum) Ferry me (Oh, oh) Ferry me
(Oh) Got my ticket in my hand (Oh, oh) I’m ready to ride
(A-hum) Ferry me (Oh, oh) Ferry me
(Oh) Take me to the (Oh, oh) Sunny side
The restless surf is starting to settle
And now the harbor comes into view
The boat is turning, gettin ready for docking
I’m turning getting ready too
Down the ramp, over the boardwalk
Leading out to the city streets
I lift my gaze to all that’s before me
With steady pavement under my feet
(A-hum) Ferry me (Oh, oh) Ferry me
(Oh) Got my ticket in my hand (Oh, oh) I’m ready to ride
(A-hum) Ferry me (Oh, oh) Ferry me
(Oh) Take me to the (Oh, oh) Sunny side
